When you’ve spent time defining your organisation’s vision and values, you want them to come through in everything you do, including the merchandise you choose to represent your brand.

During a rebrand, it’s natural to start thinking about the practical things you’ll need with your new logo on. But before choosing products, it’s worth thinking about what those products say about your organisation. Are they useful? Do they feel right for your people? Do they reflect the quality and values you want your new brand to stand for?

That’s why, at Pellacraft, we like to understand what you want your rebrand to achieve before we start talking about products.

We’ll ask about your vision and values, what you’re hoping to achieve and the people you need to reach. From there, we can suggest ideas that genuinely fit and offer honest advice if we think there could be a better approach.

Start With What You’re Trying To Achieve

When planning merchandise for a rebrand, it can be tempting to start with a shopping list. New notebooks and pens for employees, giveaways for an event or something to introduce the new brand to customers.

But before choosing the products, it helps to think about their purpose. Who are they for? How will they be used? What do you want people to take away from them? Are there particular values you want them to reflect? And what do quality, sustainability and longevity mean for your organisation?

Answering those questions gives you a much clearer brief and helps narrow thousands of potential products down to the ones that make sense for your audience, objectives and budget.

It also creates an opportunity to think beyond the obvious. Sometimes there’s a different product, material or branding method that will achieve the objective more effectively.

Let Your Values Guide Your Choices

Your values can be a useful filter when deciding what merchandise is right for your brand.

If sustainability is important, for example, look beyond whether something is simply described as ‘eco’. Consider the materials used, where and how the product has been produced, how useful it will be and whether the recipient is likely to keep it.

If your people are at the heart of your values, think about what they will genuinely appreciate and use. And if quality is central to your brand, the merchandise carrying your name should reflect that too.

It’s also why we believe good advice sometimes means challenging an initial idea. If we know of a more appropriate product, a better branding method or an option that aligns more closely with your values, we’ll tell you.

Our job isn’t simply to supply what’s on a list. It’s to understand what you’re trying to achieve and use our experience to help you make an informed choice.

Bringing Values To Life At Unity Trust Bank

Our work with [Unity Trust Bank](https://blog.pellacraft.com/unity-trust-bank-uses-branded-merchandise-to-bring-values-to-life)is a good example of what this looks like in practice.

For Mental Health Awareness Week, we worked with the team on personalised Ocean Bottles and bespoke wellness journals. The journals combined wellbeing imagery with references to Birmingham, creating something specifically relevant to Unity and its people. The Ocean Bottles also supported Unity’s focus on sustainability.

For a quarterly Town Hall event, the objective was different. Unity wanted to get colleagues talking about its values and what they meant to them. We produced branded vegan sweet boxes featuring Unity’s values, icons and brand colours, which became part of an interactive activity during the event.

The products were very different, but the thinking behind them was the same, start with the purpose, then find the merchandise that supports it.
